New Study Linking Collapse of Egypt’s Old Kingdom to Drought
A new study of sediments in Lake Tana (published in Global and Planetary Change and reported on the Archaeology News Network) indicates a period of major drought and low Nile floods around 2200BC coinciding with the collapse of Egypt’s Old Kingdom. This research helps confirm previous studies revealing widespread drought and political crisis across the Near East in the 23rd-22nd century BC.
