On August 10, 2012, twenty-four scholars met at the XV. International Congress of Historical Geographers in Prague to inaugurate the International Society for Historical Climatology and Climate History (ISHC). The assembly passed the statutes of the society and elected a board. The composition of the board, elected in Prague, is highly international. Rudolf Brázdil (Czechia) was elected president; Astrid Ogilvie (Norway), Takehiko Mikami (Japan) and Sam White (USA) are vice presidents; Franz Mauelshagen (Germany) is secretary; and Steffen Vogt (Germany) is treasurer of the society. The society will register in Düsseldorf (Germany) shortly. The main objective of the ISHC is the development of historical climatology and climate history and the presentation and dissemination of its findings in international research, teaching, and the public. The ISHC will soon run its own webpage and issue a free newsletter. The members’ section will include a bibliography, (electronic) publications, and a member list. Until the website has been set up, the ISHC will post news on the webpage of the Climate History Network. All scholars interested in the field of historical climatology and climate history are kindly invited to join the ISHC. For more information please contact the secretary of the society, franz.mauelshagen@kwi-nrw.de
